If you plan to use cannabis for relaxation, stress relief, and perhaps even as a sleep aid, then you probably want to steer towards Indica strains. These tend to have more of a couch-locking effect than Sativa strains, which are known to be more energizing and to promote productivity. Visit a recreational dispensary, and these are some of the Indica strains you're more likely to find.

1. Northern Lights

Named after beautiful lights you can see up north in Alaska, this strain evokes a beautiful and enlightening experience. It is said to give you a very heady high with a very relaxing effect. Don't plan on going anywhere or doing anything productive after smoking this one! Northern lights has a medium THC concentration, so you can smoke half a joint or so without worry.

2. Blue Mystic

With slightly less THC, there's Blue Mystic, another strain known for producing that couch-locked vibe and a good case of the munchies. Blue Mystic comes from a really bushy plant, and growers have to top and trim it carefully to yield a good harvest. Because of this extra maintenance, it can be a bit pricier than similar strains. If it's harvested late at 10 weeks, rather than young at 8 weeks, it will produce one of the stoniest highs you can imagine.

3. OG Kush

This is a classic Indica variety that has been around for a long time and used to be popular with backyard growers. Because it's so easy to grow, it usually comes at an affordable price. It gives you a good body high and will help you sleep well. Because the plant contains quite a bit of CBD, too, it can help ease feelings of anxiety and panic. Its flavor is very strong and lingers in your mouth.

4. ICE

Ice is actually a hybrid, but it is very heavy on the Indica side and has more Indica-like effects than Sativa-like effects. It will make you feel physically stoned with a strong body high. When eaten as an edible, it can cause mild hallucinations. Since each plant only has a small yield, however, Ice can come at a high price. ICE is low in CBD, so it's not a good choice if you're seeking more therapeutic benefits.

There's nothing like a strong high from an Indica strain of weed. If weed has become legal recreationally in your state, make sure you get your hands on some of these strains soon. To learn more, contact your local recreational cannabis dispensaries.
