How Important Cleaning Revolvers Is.
Cleaning revolvers is such an important function, that not cleaning them can get you killed. This is because cleaning revolvers is essential for their proper firing when you need them most. The time to clean them is when you first buy them, whether they are new or used. When they are new they have lubricants on them, that was put on them by the manufacturer. You need to get them spotlessly clean. And, if you buy them used, you better clean them, and not assume the previous owner did. Gun cleaning kits are available at major department stores that sell guns, and gun stores. You need hundreds of small bore cleaning cloths, which are 7/8" square.
You must first take the barrel out of the revolver, and visually check each of the six chambers, to make 100% sure that there is not bullet in any of them. Also check the barrel of the gun, to make certain the gun is empty completely. Then take a gun cleaning rod, push a cleaning cloth through the slotted hole at the end, and spray cleaning lubricant on the cloth. Then comes the repetition of pushing the cloth in and out of each chamber, and barrel enough times to completely get rid of all dirt in the area. Continue this action until there is not one speck of dirt or lead residue anywhere in the gun. Then, and only then, is the revolver clean.
