For those who watch baseball regularly, the term bases loaded makes complete sense. It may not for those who do not follow baseball, although it can often be deduced that the term is fairly transparent. In the game of baseball, there is a pitchers mound and four bases the bases are designed in a triangle from the view of the batter. It is the goal of the batter to hit the baseball hard enough to be able to advance to as many bases as possible, essentially running in a circle. When the player reaches a base, he is considered safe. By getting to the fourth and final base, the player has earned a point for the team. Each player can advance bases if his hit was hard enough to keep the ball in play or when subsequent players hit the ball. When there is a player on all three bases before the home base, it is referred to as bases loaded. When the bases are loaded, the player up to bat has the opportunity to make four points, otherwise known as a grand slam. He does this by hitting a ball hard enough to knock it out of the park, allowing the players on the bases to run in before he does. Share
